On November 28, 2017, Dr. Qiao Hong of the Australian Laboratory Services Group Ltd. paid a visit to our company for an inspection tour and to provide technical guidance. Relevant personnel from our Company’s Market Strategy Department, Engineering Technology Division, and Engineering Business Department attended Dr. Qiao’s training seminar on environmental remediation and engaged in discussions and exchanges closely aligned with practical work.

Dr. Qiao has been working in the environmental protection sector for more than 28 years. At present, he leads the establishment and operation of environmental laboratories, as well as site‑remediation investigations and the selection of remediation technologies, at Australia Laboratory Services Group Co., Ltd. He possesses extensive experience and a deep understanding of soil‑remediation technologies and market dynamics. During this exchange session with our company, Dr. Qiao delivered a presentation titled “Environmental Remediation: The Pie Looks Big—But Where Do You Start?” In it, he first outlined the development trends and investment opportunities in China’s soil‑remediation market, beginning with the issuance of the “Ten Measures for Soil Pollution Prevention and Control.” Grounded in practical considerations, he described the typical workflow of soil‑remediation projects and emphasized the criteria for selecting appropriate remediation technologies. Dr. Qiao then underscored the critical importance of site investigations, noting that funding allocated to this phase should account for approximately 30% of the total project budget. Only thorough and accurate site investigations can provide a reliable basis for subsequent remediation efforts, helping to avoid both wasteful over‑remediation and the severe consequences of inadequate or misguided treatment. In the Chinese market, ensuring the quality of site investigations is an indispensable step for advancing the soil‑remediation industry.

During the discussion, each employee of the Engineering and Technology Division raised questions based on their day-to-day work, and Dr. Qiao provided thorough and thoughtful responses, while also commending our company’s commitment to a pragmatic approach. Dr. Qiao analyzed the differences between the Chinese and international markets in soil remediation—particularly in terms of technology and investment—and highlighted certain ambiguities and shortcomings that still exist in the Chinese market. He further shared his insights on how small and medium-sized environmental protection enterprises can establish themselves and achieve sustainable growth in the field of environmental remediation. In addition, he briefly introduced the internationally cutting-edge “Mountains, Waters, Forests, Lakes, and Fields” concept, emphasizing that clean waters and verdant mountains represent the ultimate goals of environmental restoration.
This training and exchange session has deepened our understanding of the soil remediation industry. Dr. Qiao’s extensive experience and expertise have broadened our horizons, enabling us to approach this long-term undertaking from a fresh perspective and, in light of our company’s specific circumstances, to better leverage our strengths and make meaningful contributions.
